Add some science to your summer! |

Strange sights are waiting in the micro-universe |
When you add a little science into your summer adventures, your whole world can be transformed. Through the eyepiece of a microscope, you can see the ordinary become extraordinary as you investigate everyday things like pollen and salt on the smallest of scales. For example, a thin layer of onion skin can provide amazing insights into cellular structure as the simple sliver transforms into neat rows of cells with clearly defined walls, cytoplasm and nuclei. While analyzing these basic building blocks, a budding biologist might notice these cells are missing something that is usually a plant cell standard — chloroplasts. Why? Could it have something to do with where the bulbs grow? With a microscope set, young scientists can expand their understanding of the world around without ever leaving home. It's time to start exploring! |
